A Personal Note From Our 2015 Youth Ambassadors

With every new year comes a new beginning, and for 2016 we are certainly excited about the upcoming Masterclasses2016 whereby a new Youth Ambassador will be selected from the Senior Level. With this in mind, it was quite timely to receive a personal note from our 2015 Youth Ambassadors, Vanessa Jaruzelski and Grace Bosward, on their experiences in looking back over the past year.

‘Being chosen as the 2015 Friends of the Australian Ballet SA Youth Ambassadors has provided us with a year full of exciting events and opportunities. It’s safe to say that at the beginning we had no clue what would be in store for us, but soon realised just how amazing it was going to be!

Some highlights include presenting a cheque to David McAllister, the Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet, at the Giselle dress rehearsal as well as watching the company do class on stage. We presented Madeleine Eastoe with the FABSA farewell gift, one of her own signed pointe shoes and a beautiful strand of pearls donated by Jane Williams, at The State Library. Whilst the company was in Adelaide we also had the chance to meet some of the dancers and chat to them, as well as do some fun activities with baby ballerinas at the ‘Dream Palace’ in the Adelaide Festival Theatre.

Throughout the year we have attended a variety of functions with the FABSA team including lunch at Madame Hanoi with Brooke Lockett from the company, a farewell event for Madeleine Eastoe at the State Library, as well as the Advertiser Sunday Mail Fundraiser Gala Lunch at the Hilton Hotel, with performances by Lana Jones and Ty King-Wall from the Australian Ballet as well as Dami Im and Kate Ceberano.

We also took part in a fundraising event by the name of ‘Flamenco Fuego’ where we got to perform a solo each, and raised money for the Australian Ballet School’s new student residence. The funds from this event were presented to Lisa Pavane, the ballet school’s director, at an event where students from the school performed alongside our very own Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

We are very sad that such a wonderful year has to come to an end, but we are also so grateful that we have been able to participate in such a great program. There is not a single part of it which we did not enjoy, and must suggest to all young dancers to attend the master class at the beginning of the year so they can have a chance to experience the enjoyable and exciting things we have!’
